Handicap Match: All the same rules from a traditional match apply to a Handicap
Match. The only difference is that one of the sides has more manpower than the other. In most cases, a Handicap Match is a
two-on-one affair. However, two-on-three, two-on-four or even one-on-four affairs are not unheard of.
Fatal Four Way Match: In these matches, four Superstars compete in one ring at the
same time. It's every man for himself. Very often, these matches are of an elimination style, with the last man scoring a
decision being declared the winner. In other cases, a Fatal Four Way Match ends with the first Superstar to score a decision
picking up the win.
Last Man Standing Match: Like many specialty matches, this match that is a true
test of endurance as well as one’s threshold for pain. There are no disqualifications or countouts. The only way to
win is to incapacitate your opponent enough so that he cannot answer a 10-count. Once a Superstar is knocked down, the referee
begins to count, and if the Superstar cannot get up in 10 seconds, the match is over.
Triple Threat Match: The Triple Threat Match is not all that unlike a traditional
one-on-one match. The only difference is that another Superstar is thrown into the mix. All three Superstars compete at the
same time, and it's every man for himself. The winner of a Triple Threat Match is the first Superstar to pick up the fall,
either by pin or submission.
Barbed Wire Match: This is a match in which the ropes surrounding the ring are replaced
by strands of barb wire.
Caribbean Barbed Wire Match: This is where the ropes are wrapped in barbed wire
rather than being replaced altogether.
Circle of Fear: This is where the mat covering the ring floor is removed and the
bare wood is laced with barbed wire.
Barbed Wire Massacre: This is yet another variation of the barbed wire match in
which pieces of wood with barbed wire attached to them are surrounding the ring with the ring ropes also being replaced by
barbed wire.
Boiler Room Brawl: This particular match takes place deep within the boiler room
of an arena and the first one to escape the room wins.
Buried Alive Match: The objective to this match is for one wrestler to completely
cover his incapacitated opponent in a designated area of the arena, set up as a "grave".
Casket Match: This match is closely linked to The Undertaker. To win the match
all that must be done is to ensure your opponent is in the casket and the lid is shut; everything else is therefore legal.
Elimination Chamber: This is a variation of the Steel Cage and Hell In A Cell, in
that the ring is surrounded by a steel structure of chains and girders, but is circular allowing for four inner chambers to
be placed on the apron with platforms keeping the wrestlers from the floor. The metal is black and the chambers are
made of 'bulletproof' glass. The match is contested by six wrestlers, two beginning the match and the other four in the glass
chambers. After a predetermined amount of time (three, four or five minutes) a chamber opens at random and a wrestler is added
to the two already competing, and this continues until all men are released. Wrestlers are eliminated by pinfall or submission,
often leading to some being eliminated before every wrestler is released into the match, and the winner is the final man left
after all others have been eliminated.
Hell In A Cell: The cell differs from the cage used in a normal steel cage match,
having a roof (cages in traditional cage matches have no roof) and a wide space between the ring apron and the cell (cage
match cages hug the ring closely). To win, the participant must defeat their opponent by pinfall or submission. There are
no disqualifications in the match.
Steel Cage Match: This type of match features an unforgiving steel structure that
surrounds the ring. While inside the cage, the Superstars participating in the match usually use the steel as a weapon, throwing
their opponents into it. A Steel Cage Match is won by pinfall or submission and/or escaping the cage (rules may vary depending
on the individual match).
Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match: This type of match typically denotes one where barbed
wire lines the top of the cage, acting as a deterrent to those that want to escape from the top, but may also refer to
a cage where barbed wire replaces the chain-link or chicken mesh construction.
"I Quit" Match: In this type of match the only way to win is to make the opponent
say the words "I quit" into a microphone.
Hardcore Submission Match: This match is merely an earlier form of the "I Quit"
match, as the match had to be won through the submission of your opponent, though not through the use of exact phrase "I Quit"
(or over a microphone as in later versions of the match). However, weapons were involved and completely legal in the
match.
Inferno Match: In this match the ring is surrounded by fire, but not like what has
been seen in WWE, the ropes are also on fire as well. The objective of the match is to set the opponent on fire in any
way.
Ladder Match: A Ladder Match is usually reserved for, but not limited to, title
matches. In a Ladder Match, the championship belt up for grabs is suspended above the ring. The winner is crowned once a Superstar
grabs the belt. To get the belt, a Superstar must ascend a ladder quicker than his opponent. While the premise sounds simple,
the match becomes much more complicated once the Superstars begin using the ladder as a weapon and/or launching pad.
TLC Match: Tables, Ladders and Chairs Matches (TLC Matches) are some of the most
exciting events in sports-entertainment. While the fans enjoy them, however, they can take years off a Superstar's career.
In this type of match, tables, ladders and chairs are all legal. The object of the match, as is the case in a Ladder Match,
is to ascend the ladder and capture a belt that hangs from the arena ceiling faster than your opponent.
10,000 Thumbtacks Deathmatch: This match has 10,000 thumbtacks placed in the ring.
The wrestlers can use the thumbtacks as weapons. Victory by either pinfall, submission or knocking out the opponent.
Thumbtacks Ladder Match: This is a match in which a ladder is placed in the ring
with a reward at the top. Thumbtacks are also spread out across the ring.
East Coast Thumbtack Deathmatch: A variant of the 10,000 thumbtacks deathmatch,
this match has 177,000 thumbtacks placed in the ring.
Circus Top High Tower Deathmatch: This match features a scaffold next to the ring
and a net made of barbed wire. The net is attached to the ropes, and the only way to win is to pin your opponent in the net.
100, 200 or 300 Light Tubes Deathmatch: The object of this match is to win
by pinfall. The use of fluorescent light tubes—officially, two hundred are available for use—as weapons are allowed.
These matches are often very bloody and have been banned in most states.
Barbed Wire Massacre: A barbed wire deathmatch. The ring ropes were replaced with
barbed wire, and boards with barbed wire were around the ring.
Beds of ??? Deathmatch: A hardcore match invented by Mad Man Pondo that has beds
of thumbtacks, nails, barbed wire, glass, and/or lightbulbs. These matches usually occur in Deathmatch Title matches or Deathmatches
in general.
Chamber of Horrors: This match type was used once at Halloween Havoc, with eight
men inside a large Thunder Cage. The object is to put one's opponent inside a "chair of torture", which is in the center of
the ring inside a smaller cage, and pull the lever.
Electric Pool Match: One of the most dangerous match types ever thought up. The
ring was placed in a large pool of water, with no ropes on 2 sides of the ring, and exploding barbed wire on the other two
sides of the ring. The ring was put on a floating device, then it was surrounded by 4 metal barricades. There was a current
running through these 4 barricades (which were essentially small sections of the pool enclosed off from the rest of the pool),
enabling the water to "explode" when a wrestler was thrown into one of these barricaded areas.
Explosion Match: Usually accompanied with barbed wire ropes, a large barbed wire
wrapped explosion board is placed in the ring laced with a small amount of C-4. The loser is the man that is blown up. In
another variation, the match ends with a pin or submission and the explosives serve as weapons.
Taipei Deathmatch: Two wrestlers tape their fist and dip them in glue. They also
have a bucket of beer bottles, they smash the bottles to shards and dip their glued-soaked fist in the shards and tear each
other apart.
Japanese Barbed Wire Match: The Japanese Barbed Wire Match is different from a normal
barbed wire match in the fact that there are wooden boards covered with barbed wire and have a small charge goes off when
someone lands on it.
Flaming Tables Match: This type of match is where the tables are set on fire, and
the only way to win is to put opponents through the lit tables. Another is the double tables match, where the first wrestler
to put his opponent through two tables wins.
